Overview
An eight day, self-guided walking holiday along the coast of Catalonia, and some of the GR92 route, between the medieval town of Begur and the elegant resort town of S’Agaró. Dipping in and out of the Camí de Ronda trail which was originally created for police to look out for smugglers. Now you just need to keep an eye out for the next heavenly headland or beckoning beach. Based in the region of Baix Empordà, coastal highlights include the white-washed seaside town of Palafrugell and Dalí’s favourite of Llafranc, with some additional inland idylls such as the Sa Tuna circular trail through Catalan countryside. Staying in three-star hotels throughout, this tour is a great favourite with solo travellers, taking on the Costa Brava, which translates aptly as wild coast.

Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival Begur
Meet your driver in either Girona Airport or Figueres-Vilafant train station for a transfer to your accommodation in Begur. Begur is a medieval, whitewashed town with narrow streets, alleyways and traditional fishermen’s huts that line the coves. If time allows, we recommend a visit to the medieval castle overlooking the town which also has great views of the surrounding area.
- Accommodation: Hotel Rosa or similar in Begur
Day 2: Sa Tuna circular walk | 9.6km
Today’s route is circular, heading to Sa Tuna and Cala d’Aiquafreda through Catalan countryside with views across the coastline. Sa Tuna and Cala d’Aiquafreda are both in sheltered bays with sandy beaches surrounded by pine forests.
- Accommodation: Hotel Rosa or similar in Begur
- Walking for the day: 9.6km, 3h
Day 3: Begur – Llafranc | 13.7km
Head out along the coastal trail which has, not surprisingly, some spectacular views. Pass the seaside village of Tamariu before continuing on around La Musclera Llarga headland and the bay of Cala Pedrosa. Later take in San Sebastián lighthouse with views out over the Mediterranean and High Pyrenees. End the day in Llafranc, a white-washed seaside town frequented by Salvador Dalí.
* March 2026 update: due to the heavy rains this winter, a section of this trail is currently under renovation (from Tamariu to Cala Pedrosa), a detour is in place until the works are completed.
- Accommodation: Hotel Terramar Llafranc or similar in Llafranc
- Walking for the day: 13.7km, 4-5h
Day 4: Llafranc – Calella de Palafrugell | 9.8km
Starting in Llafranc, walk through Palafrugell, which was once a cork manufacturing town, but is now a popular market town. Indeed, we recommend a visit to the local market whilst you are there (closed Mondays). Continue on to the seaside town of Calella de Palafrugell, your final destination for the day. Calella de Palafrugell is home to a number of sandy coves interspersed with pink rocks and is considered one of the prettiest coastal towns in Catalonia.
- Accommodation: Hotel Sant Roc or similar in Calella de Palafrugell
- Walking for the day: 9.8km, 4h
Day 5: Calella de Palafrugell rest day
Take the time to relax in this cosy coastal spot. Alternatively, explore the nearby Jardíns de Cap Roig. In 1927, Colonel Woevodsky and Dorothy Webster purchased the land, where they began building a manor house and a magnificent park. The works continued until 1974 and resulted in terraced garden that runs from the castle to the sea. This area is home to the Spring Garden, Cactus Garden and Geranium Walk.
- Accommodation: Hotel Sant Roc or similar in Calella de Palafrugell
- Walking for the day: 4km, 1h
Day 6: Calella de Palafrugell – La Fosca | 8.5km
Leave Calella de Palafrugell behind and walk along a coastal trail dotted with secret coves. Head inland across fields and through hills clad in pine, olive and oak trees to pass through the protected fishing hamlet of S’Alguer before arriving in La Fosca, where you spend the night. This small, seafront village, with a sandy beach, is the perfect place for a swim after your day of walking.
* March 2026 update: due to the heavy rains this winter, a section of this trail is currently under renovation (from Cala Estreta to Punta del Canyers), a detour is in place until the works are completed.
- Accommodation: Hotel Ancora or similar in La Fosca
- Walking for the day: 8.5km, 3h
Day 7: La Fosca – S’Agaró | 17.5km
Start the walk along La Fosca’s promenade before picking up the Cami de Ronda coastal path. Follow the route along the coast with the Mediterranean sparkling in the sun on your left and pine-clad hills on your right. Walk to the harbour at Playa de Aro and cross the sandy beach at Sa Cuenca Bay to continue on to your final destination of S’Agaró. Spend the evening strolling along the promenade, home to much of the town’s most important architecture or go for a swim at the Sant Pol Beach.
- Accommodation: Hotel Sant Pol or similar in S’Agaró
- Walking for the day: 17.5km, 4-5h
Day 8: Departure
Departure after breakfast.
