Overview

Unlike Tenerife and Gran Canaria, you do not need much climbing experience, the roads are well-maintained, and cycling in Lanzarote is possible all year round. You can also rent an e-bike on this holiday.

Pick up and fit bikes after breakfast, and off you go! Visit César Manrique’s famous and unique architectural works, such as El Jardín de Cactus, Los Jameos del Agua, and El Mirador del Río, which form an integral part of the landscape. You also have the opportunity to visit the volcanic cave of La Cueva de Los Verdes. Take in fishing villages without losing sight of the impressive Monte Corona volcano. Finally, you arrive in the picturesque village of Haría, surrounded by its uncountable palm trees.
- Accommodation: Villa Lola & Juan (Haría) or similar
- Cycling for the day: 33 or 51km
Day 3: Haría to Teguise | 33 or 52km
From Haría, take the road down towards Teguise, the one-time capital of the island. The route gives you spectacular views down over the coast. Teguise itself is a delightful small town with typical architecture and many pleasant bars for refreshment. From here, continue towards San Bartolomé and the fascinating wine-producing area of La Geria to the hotel, where you will spend the next two nights in or near Teguise.
- Accommodation: Hotel Palacio Ico (Teguise) or similar
- Cycling for the day: 33 or 52km
Day 4: Circular cycling route from Teguise | 50km
Today is a free day spent in or near Teguise. You can choose to relax, enjoy a round ride, or even do both. Day 5: Teguise to Playa Blanca | 50km
Head towards the island’s main attraction, the Parque Nacional de Timanfaya. This is where Lanzarote’s volcanic nature is at its most spectacular. The eruptions of 1730 – 1736 buried a quarter of the whole island, including several villages, and gave rise to the impressive lava and volcano landscape we see today. Then go to the south of the island, stopping en route to visit the seaside volcanic crater of El Golfo before we finally reach Playa Blanca.
- Accommodation: Hotel H10 White Suites**** (Playa Blanca) or similar
- Cycling for the day: 50km
Day 6: Circular cycling route from Playa Blanca | 36km (Fuerteventura circuit 70km)
Playa Blanca sits at the very south of the island and looks across to Fuerteventura. Today you can take a boat across to Corralejo and enjoy a visit or a ride on another island. Alternatively, you can enjoy a day in Playa Blanca and take the opportunity to visit the nearby cove and beach at Papagayo, considered one of the most beautiful on the island. Another option is to visit El Golfo for a seafood lunch by the beach.

- Cycling for the day: 36-70km
Day 7: Playa Blanca to Arrecife | 50km
From Playa Blanca, we head to the wine country of La Geria. Here, the unusual vineyard cultivation techniques have given rise to a fascinating landscape not to be seen anywhere else in the world and producing some fine wines. You then descend to the coast and follow a nice promenade from Puerto del Carmen to Arrecife with its charming inland harbour of El Charco.
- Accommodation: Gran Hotel Arrecife***** (Arrecife) or similar

Difficulty and terrain
Lanzarote is a lower-lying Canary island, although it is not flat. The first day’s ride to Haría is more demanding. After that, generally easy to intermediate riding (read more about difficulty grades). We strongly advise you to follow only marked trails and never shorten the path through unknown and unmarked terrain. We will provide you with detailed road notes and maps, and you can call our 24/7 local assistance phone number anytime. More detailed info on route navigation will be included in your holiday information pack.
When to go
This trip is available throughout the year. The flexibility of self-guided holidays means that there are no fixed dates, and you can start your trip on any date.
The best time to visit Lanzarote is from September to May. From June to August, the trade winds keep the temperatures within limits.
