Overview
An eight day, self-guided viticultural vacay, walking in the Prosecco Region of north-west Italy. Officially known as the Veneto region, the journey starts in Vittorio Veneto, in the heart of the Prosecco Hills, and ends in Valdobbiadene, Italy’s sparkling wine capital and a UNESCO World Heritage site. You have plenty of sparkling sights of cultural and natural heritage in between, including ancient hilltop towns, the magnificent Cistercian abbey of Santa Maria di Follina and a collection of wineries. All with the backdrop of the foothills of the Dolomites, ancient watermills, ridges with panoramic views and vineyards that go on forever. Accommodation on this tour includes a mix of small, locally-owned hotels, B&Bs and traditional guesthouses.

Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in Vittorio Veneto
Arrive in Vittorio Veneto, located in the Prosecco Hills, in a region renowned for cultivating Glera grapes that produce the prestigious Prosecco Superiore DOCG. Depending on your arrival time, explore the cobblestone streets of the historic Serravalle District, visit the 7th-century neoclassical Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta in nearby Ceneda or visit Museo della Battaglia. Or just chill out with a stroll along the Meschio River.

Day 2: Grotte del Caglieron circular walk | 14km
Start with a challenging climb up the Venetian Prealps that surround Vittorio Veneto. At the top, continue walking along the ridge with views of vineyards, farmhouses and mountains. Head downhill to Grotte del Caglieron, where a boardwalk leads to a series of waterfalls and sandstone caves. Continue walking up quiet country roads and tackle another ascent for more panoramic views of the distant Dolomites before returning to Vittorio Veneto.

Day 3: Vittorio Veneto – Arfanta | 12.5km
Leaving Vittorio Veneto behind, walk towards the hamlet of Con Alti and continue through woodland and vineyards towards Lago di Santa Maria, where we recommend pausing for lunch. Continue on the path among hills all the way to Arfanta. We recommend visiting Ville d’Arfanta wine estate to sample a selection of their high-quality Prosecco, paired with local delicacies.

Day 4: Molinetto della Croda circular walk | 10km
Follow the route through vineyards, olive trees and farmhouses to Molinetto della Croda. This is a watermill and museum built in 1630 that still operates today using traditional milling methods. Return to Arfanta on a quiet country road lined with vineyards and farmhouses.

Day 5: Arfanta – Pieve di Soligo | 18km
Leave Arfanta behind and walk through woodlands to descend to Follina, which is a medieval village known for its 13th-century Cistercian Abbey of Santa Maria di Follina. Walk along the foothills of the Prosecco Hills. En route, you pass local wineries and can learn about traditional Prosecco making processes. End the walk in Pieve di Soligo, a small town dating back to Roman times and with other architectural highlights including the 17th-century Villa Chisini-Daniotti, Palazzo Ciassi e Morona and the baroque church of Madonna del Carmine.

Day 6: Pieve di Soligo – Col San Martino | 14km
Walk towards Solighetto through woodlands and countryside, dotted with farmhouses and villages. On the way, take the chance to explore the churches and chapels in Collagù. Descend towards Col San Martino, where you can take in views of terraced hills and sample local Prosecco at family-run wineries, or visit 12th-century Chiesa di San Vigilio, standing on a hilltop with great views.

Day 7: Col San Martino – Valdobbiadene | 12km
Follow a forest path along the ridge of the Prealps with vineyards stretching along hillsides and towards the mountains. Descend towards Santo Stefano and take an opportunity to visit the hilltop Chiesa di Santa Maria Ausiliatrice church. Continue to Valdobbiadene, Italy’s sparkling wine capital and a UNESCO World Heritage site. The town is a hub for Prosecco lovers, where you can visit prestigious wineries or enjoy local cuisine in cosy trattorias.

Meals
Breakfast is included on all days. When no restaurant location is available en route, lunches and snacks can either be bought from local shops or packed lunches can be pre-ordered from your hotel the night before. Dinner is available either at the accommodation or from restaurants in the local area.
Difficulty and terrain
This tour is rated moderate and is suitable for regular walkers with most days offering 3-5h of walking (read more about difficulty grades). The walks are along vineyards and include uneven footpaths, mule tracks and
small gravel roads.
We strongly advise you only to follow marked trails and never try to shorten the path through unknown and unmarked terrain. When to go
This tour is available from the beginning of April until the end of October. The flexibility of self-guided holidays means there are no fixed dates, meaning you can start your trip on any date during the season.
During the months of May, June, September and October, you are most likely to experience good weather, with pleasant average temperatures of 20C-25C. Most rainfall is seen in October. July is the driest and the hottest month, with an average daily temperature of 27C. Grapes are harvested in September and October making it an ideal time to visit the wine regions.
