Overview
Take your children on this 9-day Baltic Coast Family Cycling Adventure – a fantastic experience for the whole family. Spend some relaxing days gazing at the sea while your kids play with the waves and the sand. Teach them to swim, enjoy the water and create bonds and memories that will last forever.
The tour starts in the northern German city of Lübeck, from where you will start cycling past fine sandy beaches, aristocratic seaside resorts, and charming fishing villages along the Baltic Sea. Two boat trips and a train ride with Molli, the steam train, are also included in the tour.

Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival Lübeck
Your tour starts in an old and gracious Hanseatic town, recognised by Unesco as a World Heritage Site in 1987. Stroll the streets lined with medieval merchants’ homes and spired churches forming Lübeck’s ‘crown’. Bite into a yummy fish roll to start your holiday mood!

Day 2: Lübeck – Hohen Schönberg | 20km + Boat
After breakfast, start the day with a boat trip on the Trave to Travemünde. Visit Germany‘s oldest lighthouse before continuing along the Baltic Coast through Brooker Wald nature reserve to Boltenhagen. Cycling through the Brooker Wald nature reserve, you soon reach Boltenhagen, the second oldest seaside resort in Mecklenburg, where you can look over the entire bay from the cliffs. Overnight in Hohen Schönberg.

Day 3: Day on the beach in Boltenhagen | 20km
The Baltic spa resort of Boltenhagen is known for its 5km long sandy beach – the whole family will enjoy it. Why not hop straight into the water? If you spent the night in Hohen Schönberg, it‘s only a short cycle trip of approx. 10km to Boltenhagen. If you prefer more cultural entertainment, we can recommend visiting Bothmer Castle in Klütz. The Baroque castle with the wonderful Feston avenue leading up to it is quite spectacular and a great photo opportunity.

Day 4: Boltenhagen – Wismar | 30-45km
You continue, mostly along the coast, to the old Hanseatic town of Wismar. From here we recommend a short trip to Poel island to explore its long sandy beaches and go for a swim. Historic city walls from the Thirty Years’ War add charm to the island.

Day 5: Day trip to Poel Island | 25km + Boat
A boat takes you right from Wismar to Poel island. Once there, follow the circular tour around the entire island, which tempts you with long, beautiful sandy beaches and a dip into the cool wet blue. You can return either by boat or leave Poel by its dam by bike and cycle the 10km to Wismar.

Day 6: Wismar – Bad Doberan | 45km + Train
On the way to Kühlungsborn, cliffs and beautiful beaches alternate along your path, offering great views and swimming opportunities. Get on the steam train called “Molli”, to Bad Doberan, where stroll through the English park, Kamp.

Day 7: Bad Doberan – Rostock | 40km
On the way to Warnemünde, you cycle through the „haunted forest“ – woods that got their name because of the weird and wonderful shapes of the trees. You soon reach Warnemünde, where you can relax on the widest expanse of beach on the Baltic coast. Follow the Warnow river to Rostock.

Day 8: Rest Day in Rostock
Today you‘re spoiled for choice in Rostock. Bring your cycling holiday to an end on the beach and visit MSC Seal Research Centre Hohe Düne, home of twelve harbour seals, two sea lions and a fur seal.

Day 9: Departure
After breakfast, you start your individual return journey home or extend your stay.

Meals
Breakfast is included on all days. Packed lunches are available from your accommodation (order the night before) or you can stop on the way; there are plenty of beer gardens and small shops to satisfy your thirst and appetite! Dinners are available at all overnight accommodations or close by.
Difficulty and terrain
The bike path is very well way-marked. The holiday is appropriate for cyclist of all ages (read more about difficulty grades). The average distance per day is approximately 20-45km, mostly on dedicated bike lanes with no steep ascents or descents. We strongly advise you to follow only marked trails and never shorten the path through the unknown and unmarked terrain. We will provide you with detailed road notes and maps, and you can call our 24/7 local assistance phone number anytime.
When to go
This trip is available from May until October. The flexibility of self guided holidays means that there are no fixed dates, and you can start your trip on any date during the season.

Bike rental
We offer rental of standard trekking bikes, perfectly suitable for the routes of the trip, e-bikes, for those who would like to take it easy, and children’s bikes. All rental bikes are equipped with a pannier, handlebar bag, mileometer, bike lock, pump, repair kit, and one repair set per booking included in the bags. Child seat (up to 22kg) is free of charge when booked in addition to a rental bike.
