Overview
An 8-day holiday cycling the Prague to Vienna Greenway, starting your ride at Český Krumlov, one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Europe. Cycle through rural Czechia, taking in landscapes such as the Třeboň Ponds, ancient border woodlands and the vineyards of and Podyjí National Park of South Moravia. This tour also takes you to the handsome Renaissance towns of Třeboň and Telč, finally crossing the border into Austria at Mikulov, with a transfer from Mistelbach to Vienna. Stay in 3-star hotels and guesthouses, and there is an option for renting an e-bike on this holiday.

Itinerary
Day 1: Prague – Český Krumlov
After being transferred from Prague to Český Krumlov (175km), check in at the hotel, and then take some time for sightseeing. There is also the option to cycle up to Mount Klet’, which is a 26km circular route (1,079m).

Day 2: Český Krumlov – Třeboň | 53km
The first full day of cycling is through the hilly landscapes surrounding Český Krumlov. However, the landscape becomes flatter once near to the Třeboň area. A scenic ride ends in the Renaissance town of Třeboň, a well known spa resort. Check in to the hotel and visit Schwarzenberg Mausoleum, the neo-Gothic mausoleum dating from 1877, where 26 members of the noble Schwarzenberg family were laid to rest.

Day 3: Třeboň – Telč | 78km
Optional tour of Chateau Třeboň in the morning. Today’s cycling trail winds along many ponds and man-made lakes, typical of this region. Continue along the border with Austria along the Greenway, passing through Nová Bystřice. From Nová Bystřice the trail takes heads through the forests of the Czech Canada Nature Reserve. The day ends in Telč, a Renaissance town on the UNESCO Cultural Heritage List. The houses in the main square in Telč are thought to make up the best-preserved Renaissance architecture square in Czechia.

Day 4: Telč – Vranov/Bitov area | 55km
Optional tour of Telč Chateau in the morning. The cycling route continues through several traditional villages typical of this region and then into South Moravia, staying over night in the Vranov/Bitov area.

- Cycling for the day: approx. 55km, ↑522m ↓730m
Day 5: Vranov/Bitov area – Znojmo | 32-38km
Continue along the Greenway following the River Dyje and the southern Czech border with Austria. Choose between a faster, paved route or a longer, more demanding trail through Podyjí National Park. Znojmo is the gateway to South Moravia, famous for its wineries.

- Cycling for the day: approx. 32km (depending on chosen route), ↑374m ↓389m
Day 6: Znojmo – Mikulov | 61-72km
This flat region is a traditional grape-growing area and there are many wine cellars and wineries. Cycle to Mikulov, a town with a rich history, castle and historic square. Choose between the shorter or the longer route option for this day, with time to explore Mikulov in the evening.

Day 7: Mikulov – Vienna | 45km
Cross the border at Mikulov with time to spend the rest of the day in Austria. The ride in Austria is, to begin, very similar to the the landscapes of Czechia. There are vineyards, fields and small villages along the trail. The cycling part of the tour ends in Mistelbach (a total of 45km), meet your driver here for a transfer to your hotel in Vienna. There is also the option to shorten the length of the cycling route for this day, by meeting the driver in Poysdorf (25km), if this has been agreed in advance.

Day 8: Departure
Individual departure from Vienna or transfer service back to Prague (upon request).

Meals
Breakfast is included. When no restaurant location is available on the route, lunches and snacks should either be bought from local shops, or packed lunches can be pre-ordered from your hotel the night before. Dinner is available either from the restaurant in your accommodation or restaurants in the village near your hotel.
Difficulty and terrain
This moderate cycling holiday is appropriate for more regular cyclists who have an active lifestyle (read more about difficulty grades). The average cycling distance per day is approximately 55-60km, with a maximum daily elevation gain of 691m. The cycling is mostly on well-surfaced, low-traffic roads and cycle paths but some parts of the route involve off-road tracks. We will provide you with detailed road notes, maps and GPS tracks, and you can call our local assistance phone number anytime. More detailed information about route navigation will be included in your holiday information pack.
When to go
This trip is available from April until October. The flexibility of self-guided holidays means that there are no fixed dates, and you can start your trip on any date in the season – so please indicate desired beginning date when booking.

The climate in the region is continental, cold and temperate. Depending on location and altitude, temperatures vary, but in the June-September period, the daily averages are 15 – 25C. Spring and autumn are cooler with occasional rain. Expect the weather to change rapidly during the day.

By plane
Our recommended airport for this tour is Prague.
By train or bus
If you arrive at Prague airport, the best option to get to the city centre is by using regular public transport, which is very cost-effective. The bus station is right in front of Terminal 2 (Exit D). A ticket valid for 90mins costs approx. €1.25 (CZK32), and you can use it for the bus, tram or subway. We can provide private transfers from Prague Airport or train station for an additional cost.
