Walking Holidays in Slovenia
Most of our Slovenia self guided, small group and privately guided walking holidays take place in the Julian Alps. Their jagged limestone peaks offer some of Europe’s best scenery and walking, with Mount Triglav (the highest in Slovenia) at the centre of the range, and the glacial lakes Bohinj and Bled far below. Climb Mount Triglav, privately guided by an expert mountain guide, or take a self guided walking holiday in Western Slovenia to discover the hidden secrets of the Postojna Caves.

Where Do our Walking Holidays in Slovenia Take Place?
The Julian Alps
Most of our Slovenia walking holidays take place in the Slovenian Alps. The Julian Alps (Slovene: Julijske Alpe, Italian: Alpi Giulie) is a mountain range of the Southern Limestone Alps that stretch from northeastern Italy to Slovenia. They are named after Julius Caesar, who founded the municipium of Cividale del Friuli at the foot of the mountains.
A large part of the Julian Alps is included in Triglav National Park. Triglav (2,864 m) is the highest mountain and the coat of arms of Slovenia. The second highest peak in the range, the 2,775 m Jôf di Montasio, lies in Italy. There are high plains on the eastern border like Pokljuka, Mežakla and Jelovica, which also provide excellent hiking opportunities.
Our Summits of the Julian Alps walking holiday will take you on a picturesque mountain tour, guiding you through the high alpine area and its many natural attractions, including lakes Bled & Bohinj. Our Lakes and Valleys of Slovenian Alps walking holiday will take you to the famous Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj on an unforgettable mountain tour through a dreamlike, picturesque landscape. You will walk through thick green forests and lush meadows of wild flowers.
The Alpe-Adria Trail
The Alpe-Adria-Trail connects the three regions of Carinthia, Slovenia and Friuli-Venezia Giulia in a total of 43 stages and circa 750 km. On our Slovenian holidays you will walk along some of the best parts of the trail from the heart of the Slovenian Alps to the beautiful sunny wine region on the Italian border. You’ll cross a stunning mountain pass, and follow the emerald-green Soča River as it carves its way through the gorgeous Trenta Valley. You’ll trek the Italian-Slovene border along a mountain ridge, before descending into the Italian wine country.
Via Alpina
The Purple Trail of Via Alpina takes the walker through the Eastern Limestone Alps, from the Karawanken to the Allgäu. It forks off to the east of the Red Trail in the heart of the Triglav massif. Far from the beaten track, the purple route connects three Slovenian mountain massifs: Julian Alps, Karavanken and Kamnik Savinja Alps. The trail will lead you through high limestone plateaus and forests to the picturesque Bled and Bohinj lakes.
Western Slovenia
In the lesser-known region of Western Slovenia, fine food and wine are supplemented with breath-taking scenery, vast karst landscapes and natural wonders like the stunning Postojna Caves. <
