The Malerweg means ‘painters’ way’, named after the 18th-century artists from the nearby Dresden Academy of Fine Arts who immortalised these landscapes in their work. Its 115km walking trail is definitely pretty as a picture, leading you through the Elbe Sandstone Mountains in a region known romantically as Saxon Switzerland. So called because it’s actually the Saxon region of Germany, and it also has impressive mountains. We have an array of Saxon saunters here, and a seasonal mix too.
An artist’s dream, you’ll want to pack one of those mini watercolour sets in your backpack. Or at least a proper camera to capture it fully.
