Suitable for active hikers with a good level of fitness looking for more demanding and challenging hikes and who are well fit. Moderate to strenuous itineraries involve extended steep ascents and descents along routes. May also include high mountain (alpine) terrain which is rugged and rough underfoot and some sections of scrambling. The itinerary may include hut to hut walks on some days and require carrying your own belongings/backpack along route.

Mostly moderate walks but may include longer strenuous treks (up to 25 km / 8 hours) on some days.

The Rugova Gorge and Accursed Mountains self-guided walking holiday in Kosovo is a unique opportunity to visit one of the last hidden treasures of the European continent. Spectacular views, mountain lakes and rich history that is still being made. In this trip you will have the opportunity to visit the Rugova Gorge, Liqunat Lake and walk to Gjeravica (the highest mountain in Kosovo) where you will have magnificent views of Montenegro and Albania. The itinerary also includes short breaks in Prizren and Peja, two of the country’s oldest cities. The accommodation varies between three and four stars (including a spa hotel) alongside one night in a clean, comfortable and welcoming mountain lodge.

Romania’s Transylvanian Alps

The Transylvanian Alps self-guided walking holiday is the perfect way to immerse yourself in the totally different world that you will find in Transylvania and Romania. Your active trip starts near Balea Lake, a picturesque glacier lake at just over 2.000 m. For a spectacular view of the Fagaras you will hike to one of the highest peaks in Romania, before descending back to Balea Lake and Balea Waterfall. For a glimpse into medieval Transylvania and its towns with narrow, winding streets, you take a stroll around the stunning cities of Sibiu and Brasov. Accommodation is in hand-picked 3 or 4 star hotels (spa facilities and indoor pool available on Days 5 and 6).

Slovakian Alps: the High Tatras in Style

The High Tatras are the highest Slovak mountain range and this trip offers some of the most scenic walks in the area. There are about 35 valleys, 110 glacial lakes called pleso, and many mountain peaks, of which 10 are above 2,600 meters high. The itinerary offers some truly breathtaking views of the Tatra peaks and ridge. Accommodation is provided in luxury 4 star hotels, two of which were built at the beginning of the 20th century and have unique architectural features. .
